Believer's Baptism Basics
Our Lord commissions us to take the gospel to all people. Those who respond in faith are to be discipled which includes instruction and baptism.
Baptism is comparable to a wedding ring.
It is the policy of The Chapel to follow the Great Commission by restricting water baptism to those who have made a credible profession of faith in Jesus Christ. The Chapel does conduct dedication ceremonies for parents who desire to dedicate their children to the Lord, but we do not baptize a child or adult who has not yet come to faith.
Baptism is a picture of the gospel.
Baptism by immersion is a picture of the spiritual reality behind it. A person who trusts Christ as Savior is crucified with Christ, buried with Christ and risen to new life in Christ. Romans 6:16 says to believers, in the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Water baptism by immersion visually proclaims that the believer being baptized has been buried with Christ and is now alive in Christ.
