Haiti Trip

December 13 - 20, 2011 and January 2 - 9, 2012

Haiti is right on our doorstep and the need is overwhelming. You can leave New Orleans at 6:00 am and be in Port au Prince at 11:15 am. There is a bigger need for people to lead them out of poverty and ignorance than most other countries in the world.

The main purpose of a mission to Haiti is to help Respire Haiti and Megan Boudreaux in Gressier, Haiti. Teams teach English classes, hold vacation Bible school activities with the children, and bring clothes and supplies. Megan also connected The Chapel with the City of Hope Children’s Home in nearby Leogane where the director is trying to make the home self-sufficient. Chapel teams assisted with building fences around the property, fencing in garden plots, providing seeds food and support. Financial and practical support for this children’s home will be ongoing. Working with the children is such a joy! They have so little, yet are so happy.

The team learned you only need Jesus to experience joy. Haitians have virtually nothing, yet the joy on their faces as they worshipped on Sunday puts comparatively wealthy Americans to shame. One of the most memorable experiences was being on the hill top where Megan is building the school for as many children as can come and knowing that Pastor Benitos had been praying for 12 years that God would build a school on that very spot.

Believers and unbelievers in Haiti need to see that, in their time of need, the love of Jesus is alive and reaching out to them through the believers in The Chapel. Hopefully we will be able to refine the mission as the school matures and as we find meaningful projects for us to do that will assist this oppressed population to rise up from their poverty and become self-sufficient.

The villages visited on the Amazon River.

Every spring we travel the Amazon River and its tributaries on an open air river boat to provide medical and dental care to remote villages along the rivers. We minister in teams each day in a different village. Ministry teams include evangelism, vacation bible school, men’s and women’s ministries, pharmacy, eye care and soccer, as well as the medical and dental ministry teams. We participate with Amazon Outreach, an inter-denominational, non-profit mission organization formed to unite North and South Americans in spreading the gospel message of Jesus Christ to the Amazon River basin.
