New Orleans Mission Trip
In 2009 the high school ministry took a group to New Orleans during
Spring Break. The original plan was to take a group to Mexico, but God
had different plans. The team was able to engage in a variety of services
to show the compassion of Christ to New Orleans. Instead of bringing the
gospel to one nation in Mexico, the high school ministry was able to bring
the Gospel to a handful of nations less than one hundred miles from Baton
Rouge. Part of the mission trip was working with a sea port ministry to
encourage dozens of international seafarers who were docking in New
Orleans. The majority of the trip was spent reaching out to inner city children
by putting on a vacation Bible school. The VBS involved games, crafts,
free hamburgers and hotdogs, face painting and the high school students
sharing the Gospel. Most days were spent helping clear off abandoned
lots in the lower ninth ward that were damaged during Hurricane Katrina.
The high school students were able to work as a team to serve and show
the same compassion Christ first showed them. The love of Christ was
magnified during their week in New Orleans.
